In July 2015, EU-OSHA was invited to Georgia to participate in a training session for new pilot monitors as part of a project organised by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Affairs with the support of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). EU-OSHA’s attendance at this event was possible with the support of the European Commission as part of the European Neighbourhood Policy.
The seminar aimed at providing the new pilot monitors with the knowledge and skills to enable them to work with enterprises in Georgia to improve occupational safety and health. EU-OSHA’s intervention involved providing information on the framework of occupational safety and health management in the EU and a session on the risk assessment process. The new pilot monitors were enthusiastic and participated actively in all the sessions and we wish them well in their new positions.
The seminar was held in the new offices of the Georgian Employers’ Association (GEA) in Tbilisi and included active participation from social partners on both the workers and employers’ side. We would particularly like to thank the GEA for hosting the seminar and the Georgian Trade Union Confederation (GTUC) and all the other social partners for their participation.
EU-OSHA also had the opportunity to attend a tripartite workshop with representatives from the Georgian Ministry of Labour, the GEA and GTUC and representatives from the ILO and Portuguese Authority for Working Conditions. This seminar was an opportunity for EU-OSHA to discuss our awareness raising activities and, in particular, our Healthy Workplaces Campaigns. We provided some ideas about how to structure an OSH campaign and we look forward to working with our colleagues in Georgia to support their awareness raising activities.
EU-OSHA’s mission to Georgia was a success and we would like to thank the Georgian Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Affairs, the ILO and the Georgian social partners for welcoming us to Tbilisi. We look forward to our next opportunity to collaborate to help make Georgia and the EU safer, healthier and more productive places to work.
