Description

Global Health Workforce Barcelona is an international conference taking place on 17–18 September in Barcelona under the leadership of Women in Global Health and with the support of the Scientific Committees of the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH). Building on previous collaboration between these organisations, the event aims to advance gender equity, leadership, and protection in the health and care workforce, with a particular focus on the essential yet often underrecognised role of women in sustaining health systems worldwide.

The conference will bring together policymakers, researchers, practitioners, trade unions, professional associations, universities, and civil society representatives to exchange knowledge, evidence, and practical solutions. Across two complementary days, participants will explore key workforce challenges, including shortages, unsafe working conditions, gender and generational inequalities, mental health, and the integration of occupational health into broader global health and universal health coverage policies.

More broadly, Global Health Workforce Barcelona seeks to strengthen international collaboration and contribute to fairer, safer, and more equitable health systems by promoting women’s leadership, safer and more decent workplaces, and stronger gender-responsive health policies. The event is designed as a space for dialogue, visibility, and action, helping to translate evidence into policy and institutional change at global, regional, and national levels.
