Države članice, europske institucije, poslovne udruge, socijalni partneri i drugi sudionici oblikovali su brojne alate i dokumente sa smjernicama koje mogu poslužiti kao pomoć poduzećima u provedbi opsežne i učinkovite procjene rizika. Ti alati predstavljaju širok raspon pristupa učinkovitom upravljanju opasnim tvarima. Često pokrivaju određene radne zadatke, kao što su punjenje i crpljenje tekućina ili zavarivanje. U drugim se izvorima nalazi detaljan pregled određenih skupina tvari, kao što su tvari koje izazivaju preosjetljivost, ili tipičnih rizika u određenim sektorima.
