Države članice, evropske institucije, poslovna združenja, socialni partnerji in drugi akterji so pripravili veliko orodij in smernic, s katerimi si lahko podjetja pomagajo pri izvajanju celovitih in učinkovitih ocen tveganja. V teh orodjih so predstavljeni različni pristopi k učinkovitemu ravnanju z nevarnimi snovmi. Pogosto so obravnavani določeni delovni postopki, kot so polnjenje in črpanje tekočin ali varjenje.
