European Commission Vice-President Schinas emphasised the critical role of EU-OSHA in creating safe, healthy, and productive workplaces in Europe during his visit to Bilbao on 23 July. Following a tour of the Agency’s headquarters, he met with EU-OSHA management and staff for a stimulating exchange, fielding questions and sharing his vision on the main challenges at stake in the EU.
Vice-President Schinas said: "EU-OSHA's work is vital in ensuring that every worker in Europe is safe, healthy, and skilled for the future. By prioritising occupational safety and health alongside skills development, we are building a strong and competitive workforce ready for the challenges of tomorrow."
His role includes overseeing policies related to skills development, education, training and public health. The Vice-President plays a key part in initiatives like the European Skills Agenda, which aims to equip workers with the necessary skills for the digital and green transformation and future job markets. He also fosters the EU comprehensive approach to mental health, including at work.
EU-OSHA’s has been promoting workplace safety and health among teachers and students in vocational education and training. Preparing people’s skills for the digital transformation of work is also a central focus of the current campaign, Safe and healthy work in the digital age. EU-OSHA also engages in extensive research on psychosocial risks and mental health.
