Description

Europe is facing major structural challenges related to demography, digital and green transition, competitiveness and labour sortages, all in a dramatically changing geopolitical context. In the midst of the pandemic crisis, in 2021, Portugal launched the Porto Social Summit where European leaders committed to the European Pillar of Social Rights and to deliver on it with an ambitious Action Plan.

In 2025, the European Commission will launch a second Action Plan on the European Pillar of Social Rights. Following Porto Social Summit and the Social Forum in 2023, Portugal - together with the Commission and the Presidency of the Council and the European Parliament, wants to continue its ambitious biannual initiative and organise a new Social Forum in September 2025 in Porto. As in the first edition, the main event will be preceded by a side event open to relevant European stakeholders and civil society.

Portugal looks forward to highlighting the objective of creating quality jobs in the context of the forthcoming revision of the Action Plan on the European Pillar of Social Rights, with a particular focus on work life balance issues (adequate leave, flexible working arrangements, access to care services, equality between men and women), in close relation to the 2030 goals on employment, skills and poverty reduction.
