After signing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) in June 2006, Albania became part of the Stabilisation and Association Process. In this framework, significant progress has been made with regard to health and safety at work. ‘The National Strategy for Health and Safety at Work’ was drafted by the government and approved by parliament.
‘The Law on Health and Safety at Work’ has been drafted and is expected to be approved by parliament. Coordination has been carried out between the institutions working in the field of occupational health and safety, and social dialogue has been strengthened.
Albania’s participation in the network of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) is very important for the operation of the national occupational health and safety scheme, as is the Agency’s support for the National Focal Point.
The National Focal Point has four strategic roles: organisation of the national network; participation in the Agency’s advisory procedures; management of the National Focal Point’s website; and organisation of the ‘European Week for Safety and Health at Work’ campaign.
