Preventing hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS): smart digital systems for improving workers' safety and health

European workers who are exposed to vibrations are at risk of causing irreversible damage to their hands and arms. This case study described a wristwatch that uses sensor and software technology to identify excessive vibration exposure levels and alert the wearer in real time. 

It is one of the smart digital systems designed to improve occupational safety and health (OSH) for workers in fields like construction, mining and manufacturing. This case study is part of the OSH Overview (2020-2023), which explores the challenges and opportunities of this type of new technology.
