Spain: Digital tools for preventing the risk of heatstroke in the construction industry
14/05/2025
Construction workers are often subject to extreme weather conditions. During the summer, extensive exposure to heat and UV radiation can cause heat exhaustion and heatstroke, not to mention skin and ocular damage. To ensure the safety and health of its workers, the Spain-based construction company Jacar Montajes has adopted simple yet effective digital solutions coupled with preventive measures. Wearable bracelets warn workers to stop if their body temperature rises. Workers are also equipped with protective eyewear and clothing, and have access to air conditioning, cool water and sunscreen in work huts.
Jacar Montajes is one of the winning examples of the 16th Healthy Workplaces Good Practice Awards competition, which recognises successful prevention and management of risks linked to digitalisation in the workplace.
