A 2021 review of how the Health & Safety Authority (HSA) in Ireland was delivering its mandate led to a government decision and support for investing more resources in the HSA. This led to recruitment campaigns to recruit an additional 127 staff members in the organisation.
This case study report highlights important developments and show how the recruitment drive was performed including the onboarding of new staff. It also shows the positive effect on inspections on occupational safety and health compliance that have come about with the increase in staff. Other EU Member States and jurisdictions can replicate this approach to increasing Labour Inspectorate numbers to better meet their mandates.
