Outstanding examples of workplace stress management celebrated at Riga awards ceremony

On 27 April 2015, the eve of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the Healthy Workplaces Good Practice Awards ceremony has been held at the Latvian Presidency Conference on Occupational Safety and Health in Riga. Eleven innovative and outstanding examples of psychosocial risks and stress management were awarded, from organisations of different sizes and sectors throughout Europe. The awards have helped demonstrate the success of the Healthy Workplaces Manage Stress campaign at the workplace level.

28 April - A key date for safety and health at work

Join in building a Culture of Prevention on OSH is the theme of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work organised by the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
A national occupational safety and health culture is one in which the right to a safe and healthy working environment is respected at all levels, where governments, employers and workers actively participate in securing a safe and healthy working environment through a system of defined rights, responsibilities and duties, and where the highest priority is accorded to the principle of prevention, according to the ILO.

OSHwiki article in the spotlight – Towards an occupational safety and health culture

This month’s OSHwiki article in the spotlight looks at the issue of organisational culture, which plays a vital role in occupational safety and health (OSH). As the article explains, organisational culture refers to the shared values, norms, opinions, and taboos within an organisation that influence the working processes, perceptions, and understandings of OSH risks and how they are dealt with.

Investing in the development of a corporate culture that highly values health and safety is therefore not just a matter of importance for organisations. It’s also a priority for the European Union and other international organisations, such as the International Labour Organisation (ILO) which has devoted the 2015 World Day for Safety and Health to this theme under the call for action “Join in building a culture of prevention on OSH”.
