‘Back School’ - a Spanish initiative to protect back health among workers in residential care

This case study details the efforts of the Spanish company GSR S Coop to address the high incidence of work-related back injuries in the national residential care sector. The initiative combines a theoretical and practical training programme, and fosters a proactive approach to workplace safety.

The ‘Back School’ initiative has led to positive results, with 72% of company workers considering the initiative beneficial. However, challenges remain in terms of long-term behavioural change and ensuring participation.
