New EU rules under the One Substance, One Assessment (OSOA) package are set to harmonise chemical safety assessments and shorten the gap between identifying risks and taking regulatory action, ensuring faster, better protection of human health and the environment.

Led by the European Chemicals Agency, the initiative will integrate chemical data into a single Common Data Platform for Chemicals (CDPC). It includes a raft of key metrics from emissions, environmental occurrence, and human exposure (including workers) to reference values, study notifications, and sustainability information.

By consolidating chemical data from five EU agencies (including EU-OSHA) and the European Commission, the platform will make it easier for authorities, NGOs, businesses, academia, and citizens to access, share, compare, and reuse information.

Datasets will be incorporated progressively with the first lot being available by January 2029.
