How to advance compliance with OSH regulations; an overview of different national strategies

The main goal of this workshop was to enhance understanding of supporting compliance, provide information to policymakers and researchers on state and market influences, and to identify good practices to encourage better compliance.

Comparative research was carried out in five EU Member States - Germany, Norway, Poland, Portugal and Ireland – examining labour inspectorate practices and prevention services. While the diversity among Member States makes the work challenging, it also provides opportunities to share knowledge and learn from each other.

Speakers from each Member State where comparative research has been carried out were invited to present their findings from their respective countries. Day one of the workshop provided an opportunity for each Member State which had carried out comparative research to present their findings and for participants to ask questions. Each Member State presenting had conducted either six or seven case studies and highlighted challenges, country-specific factors and transferability. Day two of the workshop provided an opportunity for group discussions on three topics: innovative OSH practices and organisational efforts across countries; initiatives and tools promoting OSH; addressing emerging challenges in OSH. Participants were split into three groups to discuss these topics which were facilitated by EU-OSHA.
