Securing safer, fairer conditions for platform workers: key regulatory and policy developments and challenges

This policy brief describes how occupational safety and health in platform work is being shaped in light of recent regulatory and policy developments such as the 2024 EU directive to improve working conditions for platform workers. 

It examines the problems and limitations putting these workers’ safety and health at a significant disadvantage when compared with conditions for employees in similar jobs in the traditional economy. 

It evaluates the solutions adopted by countries worldwide, and initiatives like the Fairwork project. The brief concludes with 10 policy pointers for the improvement of working conditions for these workers.
