The Barcelona Social Superblocks initiative – proximity home care services

This case study presents the Barcelona Social Superblocks initiative, which is based on the Dutch Buurtzorg model. ‘Social superblocks’ serve as a basis for self-organised groups of professionals taking care of users in close proximity.

While the initiative has enhanced social support and improved employment conditions, exposure to musculoskeletal risks has increased and physical and mental fatigue has worsened. This case underlines the importance of tailoring individualised approaches to organisational contexts and workers’ needs when implementing the Buurtzorg model.
