The ageing workforce: implications for occupational safety and health - A research review - Information Sheet

Based on a review, this info sheet provides key conclusions regarding sustainable working by considering occupational safety and health (OSH) issues in the context of an ageing workforce. It outlines the general age-related changes we experience, but emphasises individual differences. The implications of these changes for OSH and sustainable work are considered, along with the importance of basing risk assessments on physical capacity rather than age. Successful measures for risk prevention and for promoting sustainable work along the life course are outlined, and the importance of integrated OSH systems is discussed. Finally, gaps in the research are identified, highlighting areas to focus on in future research.
