A non–binding guide to best practice with a view to improving the application of related directives on protecting health and safety of workers in agriculture, livestock farming, horticulture and forestry

This non-binding guide published by the European Commission addresses employers, workers and their representatives, farmers and family members as well as other stakeholders in the agricultural sector. It provides information on hazards and risks of farming, horticulture and forestry work and good practice examples concerning the implementation of EU OSH directives. Following this guide helps to understand legal prescriptions and to manage risks at work properly.

The guide explains how to organise safety and health management (incl. risk assessment, training of workers and emergency response), provides information on the selection and use of personal protective equipment and highlights hazards and risks at work (e.g. when working with machinery and equipment, transporting goods, working with dangerous substances, working with lifestock, in forestry and in greenhouses).

This guide also gives an overview on EU directives, references and contains a bibliography of information providers, a glossary, a list of key questions and a list by topic, a table of practical examples and a general table of the duties of the stakeholders.
