European Survey of Enterprises on New and Emerging Risks (ESENER 2019) — background briefing

This briefing provides background information and an overview of the results of ESENER 2019. The survey looks at how occupational safety and health issues are managed in practice in European enterprises, seeking to understand the drivers for and barriers to addressing workplace risks.

ESENER is designed to produce results that are comparable between countries and over time. The 2019 edition, the third, involved interviews with representatives of 45,420 enterprises in 33 European countries.

The results cover subjects including who is responsible for managing safety and health at work and whether workers are involved in such management, how psychosocial risks are addressed and how changes such as digitisation are affecting workers’ safety and health.
