EU-OSHA Visit to Moldova

James Sumner

On 29 September 2014, EU-OSHA representatives visited the Republic of Moldova and met with the Moldovan Ministry of Labour, Social Protection and Family as part of its European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) project, funded by the EU under the ENP Instrument.

Mrs Valentina Buliga, Minister of Labour, Social Protection and Family in Moldova, welcomed us to Chișinău. She highlighted the recently signed Association Agreement between the EU and Moldova and the commitment of the Moldovan Government to implementing the EU Directives in the field of occupational safety and health.

We had an opportunity to discuss with the Ministry and social partners the status of workplace health and safety in Moldova and their current priorities for the future. During the meeting, EU-OSHA was ably assisted by our Romanian Focal Point, Ms Georgiana Nicolescu who provided valuable insight into the work of EU-OSHA at Member State level. A number of EU Directives in the field of occupational safety and health have already been enacted in Moldova and so support in raising awareness and building the capacity to implement these directives is a priority.

Our meeting was informative and productive and we would like to thank our colleagues in the Republic of Moldova for welcoming us to Chișinău. We look forward to working together to help make the EU and Moldova safer, healthier and more productive places to work.
