Building the links in Romania

Reaching into Europe's workplaces is the goal of EU-OSHA, to provide key information so that the risks to workers health and safety are prevented. This objective is achieved by having a national focal point for each Member State that manages a network made up of worker, employer, and governmental representatives. In Bucharest on 19 July 2012, the Romanian Network met to hear about and discuss the work of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work.

 The high-level national partnership meeting was attended by Ms Georgeta Bratu, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Protection who is coordinator of Payment, Employment, Social Insurances and Occupational Safety and Health within the Ministry. Also present were Mr Dantes Nicolae Bratu, General Inspector of State of the Labour Inspectorate and Mr Nicoale Voinu, the Deputy General Inspector of State, and Ms. Carmen PLUTEANU, Director-General, Direction of Work Accidents and Occupational Diseases, the National House of Public Pensions.

The meeting was also attended by worker representatives, particularly Mr Bogdan Iuliu Hossu, President of the "Cartel Alfa" national trade union confederation and Mr Corneliu Constantinoaia of the National Confederations of "Fratia" free trade unions. 

There was a strong expert presence, led by Mr Ionel Iorga, Director-General of the National Research and Development Institute on Occupational Safety "Alexandru Darabont", and Messrs Dan Andreescu And Victor Dunareanu of the Romanian Occupational Safety and Health Association (ARSSM).
During the meeting,there was a good discussion of latest EU-OSHA campaign on prevention through leadership and worker participation as well as a presentation of the activities of the Romanian focal point by Iona-Georgiana Nicolescu, the Coordinator of the International Relations Department at the National Research and Development Institute on Occupational Safety (INCDPM) and a description of work in the area of occupational risk prevention within the medical units of Romania by Staeluta Nisipeanu.
