AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO BRIDGE DIFFERENCES IN SAFETY CULTURE

Mechanical maintenance is a high-risk activity with a statistically high number of accidents. In the client–contractor relationship an additional problem is the difference in safety culture. Whereas this may have been taken into account on a company level, during contract negotiations or in the formal preparations of the contract, this is not necessarily the case when considering the individual operators of both sides. Getting the client operator and the contractor to trust each other and to communicate effectively on safety issues is essential to avoid incidents and accidents.
