A number of decentralised agencies and joint undertakings carry out specific legal, technical or scientific tasks within the European Union. They help to shape informed policies and laws at both the EU and national levels and add value by promoting the sharing of information and expertise.

The EU agencies have been established upon the Commission’s proposal by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union. They help the EU institutions and Member States implement EU policies more efficiently.
