ERGONOMIC SOLUTIONS AND ORGANISATIONAL MEASURES ADDRESSING THE NEED FOR A REDUCTION IN RISK FROM BIOMECHANICAL AND WORKING OVERLOAD IN THE FISHING SECTOR OF MARCHE REGION

In 2004, the Single Regional Health Agency for Marche completed a research study for the evaluation of risks in the manual handling of loads, awkward postures and repetitive movements in the fishing sector.  

Risk analysis was conducted on seven fishing vessels: three fishing vessels with fixed opening equipment called “rapid”, two that were used for towing a “loose” net, one used for towing a “dragnet” and one used for “mussel” dragging. Following that study, several ergonomic solutions were suggested and adopted (by many fishing vessels in the Ancona area) to reduce the extent of the risks analysed.
