Early intervention and accommodations for upper limb problems — research and data entry work

This case study highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to tackling musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace.

A female researcher who suffers from sore wrists and feelings of numbness in her fingers has been able to remain in her job thanks to the support she has received from her line manager, human resources, in-house ergonomists, an occupational physician and her general practitioner.

Early intervention (despite the lack of a firm diagnosis) based on risk assessment and trialling new equipment has helped to alleviate discomfort and prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
