CROPS (Compact Roll Over Protective Structure)

The Directives 77/536/CEE, 79/622/CEE, 86/298/CEE e 87/402/CEE, according to the different typologies of tractors, establish the methodologies for protective equipment testing in case of roll over ( frames or cabins). The basic principle is that this equipment must guarantee an adequate safety volume around the driver’s seat in case of roll over.   However, due to the overall vertical dimensions, these structures strongly limit the use of tractors in working under trees or in greenhouses. According to the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/ (Annex 1 point 1.1.2 Letter C), when designing and constructing machinery the manufacturer or his authorised representative must envisage not only the intended use of the machinery but also any reasonably foreseeable misuse thereof. Foldable Roll Over Protective Structure (ROPS) on tractors does not comply with this safety requirement. In fact, the use of tractors with the foldable ROPS not in safety position, during several working operations, is a foreseeable and quite common misuse.
