Accommodations and task changes to enable an ICT worker to manage knee osteoarthritis


An ICT worker diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis has been able to remain in his job thanks to some straightforward adjustments. Thus, the company he works for had been able to retain an expert worker who is able to train others.

The case study highlights the changes that were made to his duties, removing tasks involving heavy lifting or kneeling and providing him with a purely desk-based role. In addition, it identifies the company’s teleworking policy as playing a key role in keeping the worker in his job, as he can work at home whenever his condition flares up.

Some simple tools, such as a Bluetooth headset that allows him to move around while talking to customers, have helped the worker to manage his condition.
