The current guidance address possibilities of the substitution of hazardous chemicals with less hazardous substances is the best way for a company in order to reduce the harmful effects of chemicals on human health and the environment. Requirements for the substitution of hazardous substances are also provided for various chemicals. Relevant legislation is also described in  order to better understand the concept of substitution and the possibilities of raising awareness. This handbook is devised for the project "Activities of the Baltic States in Hazardous Substances Reduction in the Baltic Sea "(BaltActHaz) and its purpose is to help explain to representatives of different industries how to plan the replacement of a hazardous substance in a product or process at the enterprise level.
