EU-OSHA’s Healthy Workplaces Manage Dangerous Substances campaign partners and other experts gathered at a 2-day event in Brussels to share knowledge and experiences. In workshops and plenary sessions, participants debated ways of tackling workplace exposure to carcinogens and other dangerous substances. The importance of multidisciplinary efforts in occupational safety and health, effective systems for risk assessment and strong communication at all levels were among the topics covered.

According to the 2018 Stakeholders’ Satisfaction Survey results, EU-OSHA maintains a high level of work performance, with satisfaction levels even higher than those in 2016. 89% of stakeholders say that EU-OSHA addresses the right priorities in the field of occupational safety and health (OSH) and 87% report that EU-OSHA adds value to the work by national OSH organisations. The respondents include mainly workplace intermediaries and policy makers, inside and outside the EU, with 86% coming from EU Member States.

EU-OSHA welcomes its new founding regulation, coming into force on 20 February 2019.

In its 25th anniversary year, the new regulation recognises EU-OSHA’s key role in making Europe a safer and healthier place to work since its foundation in 1994. This new regulation takes account of the rapidly changing world of work and is a clear endorsement of EU-OSHA’s continuing relevance in the future. It is aligned with the regulations of other EU agencies under DG Employment and introduces few substantial changes.

EU-OSHA presents an interactive infographic created to support the Healthy Workplaces Manage Dangerous Substances campaign.

The infographic allows users to discover facts and figures on the risks that dangerous substances pose to workers and the benefits of managing those risks. It’s user-friendly and covers key messages, such as the dangers of carcinogens in the workplace and the risks posed to specific groups of workers.
