New SARS-CoV-2 variant related to mink farms - rapid risk assessment methodology for workers

Since April 2020, five European countries - the Netherlands, Denmark, Spain, Sweden, and Italy - have reported coronavirus outbreaks at mink farms and subsequently in mink farm workers.

Minks are known to be susceptible to Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, and it is already established that human-to-mink and mink-to-human transmission can happen.

As a result, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), with the contribution of EU-OSHA, recently published “Detection of new SARS-CoV-2 variants related to mink”. A rapid risk assessment methodology that considers the risk to human health posed by SARS-CoV-2 mink-related variants and proposes prevention and control measures for mink farm workers.
