Artificial intelligence for worker management: risks and opportunities

Keywords:

This policy brief draws on the main findings from research into the risks and opportunities associated with occupational safety and health of artificial intelligence (AI)-based worker management (AIWM) systems.

Risks relate to workers’ loss of job control, dehumanisation and discrimination, and implications regarding lack of transparency and power asymmetry. The opportunities presented include risks monitoring, personalisation of workstations and work routines, and design of healthy and safe jobs and workplaces.

A set of recommendations to help address risks of AIWM systems in the workplace are also provided.
