Nocodust — reduction of risks arising from exposure of workers to high dust levels in coal mines

Keywords:

There was high dust concentration in underground mining and rock transportation. In coal mining the dust could be explosive and it might also cause pulmonary diseases like fibrosis of the lung. Old dust removal systems could not sufficiently eliminate pollutants from the air. Use of electrical motors could be a source of explosion and the leaking water in the system caused their repeated breakdown. The project arose from close cooperation between users of dust control equipment in coal mines, manufacturers of old-type dust collecting units and research and development designers from KOMAG. The broad aim was to increase the workers’ awareness of the risks of exposure to dust. This goal was achieved in two ways: first by designing new dust collecting units, and second by conducting an information campaign in coal mines.
