Report adopted by MEPs highlights quality employment and fair working conditions
The Employment Committee of the European Parliament has adopted a draft report which points out the main actions needed to achieve sustainable economic and social development, improve the social standards and decrease inequalities in the EU.
MEPs highlighted that socially and economically balanced structural reforms are needed to boost investment, create quality employment and promote fair working conditions. They also stressed that investing in accessible and high-quality education and training is crucial to guarantee that the skills acquired will match the labour market demand.
The adopted report reflects the assessment carried out by the Committee on the employment and social aspects of the Commission’s Annual Growth Survey (AGS) 2018. The AGS, which is an integral part of the European Semester, aims to strength the sustainable economic development and social convergence by identifying the priorities for the EU and its member states for the year ahead.
For the first time, the principles and rights of the European Pillar of Social Rights are fully integrated in the AGS.
