COVID-19 - New rapid risk assessment for long-term care facilities by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control
Long-term residents in care homes are a particularly vulnerable population group. In some European countries, deaths in care homes represent 30-60% of all COVID-19 related deaths.
In light of this situation, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control published "Rapid Risk Assessment: Increase in fatal cases of COVID-19 among long-term care facility residents in the EU/EEA and the UK", with EU-OSHA's collaboration. This study compiles the latest epidemiological data in the European Union, focusing on national outbreaks between long-term care facility residents.
The publication also offers specific measures for care-home workers and residents in the areas of prevention, control of transmission, environmental cleaning, waste management, or vaccination.
EU-OSHA contributed information regarding measures to protect workers in these facilities, including those related to biological agents exposure and measures addressing increased workload and psychosocial risks.
