6th SAF€RA Symposium ‐ Sustainable Safety and Managing Dangerous Substances
The 6th SAF€RA Symposium takes place as part of the SAF€RA General Assembly. Discussions focus on industrial safety, the impact of running and past SAF€RA projects and the Dutch national initiative on sustainable safety.
Organised by EU-OSHA’s official campaign partner, the European Technology Platform on Industrial Safety (ETPIS), the symposium kicks off with a keynote speech by Dr. Dietmar Elsler from EU-OSHA on the Manage Dangerous Substances Campaign 2018-19 and on Europe`s costs of work-related accidents and diseases. A presentation of running and past SAF€RA projects follows, and day 1 concludes with a session discussing the Dutch national initiative ‘Sustainable Safety 2030’.
The programme aims to enhance cooperation between the chemical industry, scientific institutes, universities and (safety) authority policy makers and inspectorates. Speakers discuss the highlights and importance of the programme in the Netherlands, the perspectives of Dutch industry, and developments in Europe on sustainable safety. The session rounds off with a round table and interactive discussion with SAF€RA members.
Day 2 of the symposium begins with keynote speeches, including on how to get more effective last-minute risk assessment in industry. This is followed by testimony from several SAF€RA Partners on the impact of SAF€RA-funded projects in industrial safety and a discussion with the symposium participants. The symposium concludes with a wrap-up by SAF€RA Chairperson, Minna Päivinen.
The SAF€RA Partnership brings together 19 European institutions, ministries, funding agencies, and stakeholders ready to bring funding or resources to carry out research in industrial safety. SAF€RA operates in context of EU-OSHA’s official campaign partner the European Technology Platform on Industrial Safety, ETPIS, which initiated the initial SAF€RA project.
