EU-OSHA's ENP Project in the Republic of Azerbaijan
As part of its European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) project, funded by the EU under the ENP Instrument, EU-OSHA representatives met with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population in Baku, Azerbaijan during the month of October. This meeting provided a great opportunity for EU-OSHA to introduce its own work programme and to learn about the state of occupational safety and health in Azerbaijan.
EU-OSHA was welcomed to the Republic of Azerbaijan by Mr Idris Isayev, the Deputy Minister responsible for safety and health at work, who expressed his hope that we will be able to work together effectively during the project. The meeting involved representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population and, in particular, the State Labour Inspectorate, who provided a background on some of the interesting work underway in the field of occupational safety and health in Azerbaijan. EU-OSHA also had the opportunity to present information on its current work programme and outline the European system for managing occupational safety and health.
We were very happy that both workers’ and employers’ representatives were present at our meeting The opportunity to hear the views of social partners on occupational safety and health provided us with a solid understanding of the occupational safety and health challenges in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The meeting provided us with the opportunity to discuss the priorities for Azerbaijan in the field of occupational safety and health and to outline some possible areas of collaboration for the coming months.
We would like to thank our colleagues in the Republic of Azerbaijan for welcoming us to Baku and engaging with us in what was a very productive and informative meeting. We look forward to working together over the course of the project to help make the EU and the Republic of Azerbaijan safer, healthier and more productive places to work.
