Lifting an carrying heavy loads in construction - training for young workers
The incidence of low back pain in construction workers is consistently reported as being higher than in all other industries. Lifting and carrying weights of more than 25 kg and working overhead and in bad postures leads to back problems. Younger workers are often more prone to muskuloskeletal poblems due to inefficient and non ergonomic work postures. Most back injuries are sprains and strains from lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials. Injuries can be reduced by planning, changing how work is done, and training on the right lifting and carrying heavy loads. The Training Center Bau-ABC Rostrup developed a preventive approach to tackling the problem of back injuries in young workers. The project was started in 1995 and more than 1,000 trainees have meanwhile passed through the lifting and carrying training at Bau-ABC Rostrup.
