Working safely with hazardous chemicals in a pharmaceutical company
This case study details the participatory approach adopted by a pharmaceutical company in Croatia to manage the risks associated with working with dangerous substances.
The company’s safety and health strategy, which goes above and beyond EU and national legislation, involves enhanced risk assessment, eliminating the use of dangerous chemicals where possible and technical measures to reduce exposure. A particular emphasis is placed on workers who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as the majority of employees are women.
Training and awareness raising, and the involvement of all staff at each stage of the development and implementation of new chemical safety measures, are key factors in the success of this hazard reduction strategy.
