The growth of the online economy presents challenges for occupational safety and health (OSH). Online platform work — labour provided through, on or mediated by online platforms — is characterised by a wide range of working arrangements, including casual work, dependent self-employment, piecework, home work and crowdwork.

This report describes the OSH risks that may result from online platform work, discusses the challenges that the online economy presents for current regulatory approaches on OSH, and offers examples of policies and regulatory efforts that are in place or being developed to address these risks and challenges.
