Fitness for firefighters
Firefighting is dangerous work. Among others firefighters perform strenuous muscular work: they must climb stairs and ladders, carry and use heavy equipment, often above their head or in awkward positions, and they may be called upon to perform difficult rescue operations and handling victims. Firefighting requires high levels of fitness and muscular strength and endurance which are of vital importance for firefighters’ work capacity. The German accident insurance Rheinland-Pfalz (UK RLP) provides a fitness programm for firefighters, including excercises to improve muscle strength, mobility, endurance, and coordination.
