Description

The report describes the method developed by RIVM to calculate product-specific intervals required for workers wearing personal protective equipment when (re-)entering pesticide sprayed crops. Currently, gloves can be prescribed for workers on the label of a PPP. However, information on the label about the duration of the obligatory use of gloves is missing. The new methodology provides a way to refine this period.
RIVM proposes a protocol to investigate the dermal absorption of dried residues to assess if crops can be handled safely. Dermal absorption is currently researched with fluids.
Chemical substances can be classified based on their properties, e.g. linked to irritation of the skin or eyes, or allergic reactions. For the safety of workers, it is important to know the hazardous properties of a ready-to-use (diluted) plant protection product and its dried foliar residue.
