Design and planning is an essential component in all construction work. As far as maintenance activities are concerned, the risks inherent in the design also need to be addressed. A lack of communication between the designer and the occupier and a lack of focus on maintenance aspects can lead to the creation of intrinsic risks.

The Brussels public transport company STIB designed its ‘Jacques Brel’ maintenance site for trams and buses in order to guarantee maximum safety for the maintenance worker. The workplace is equipped with modern technologies and features, which enable the maintenance work to be performed in safe conditions. Safe maintenance encompasses the safety and well-being of passengers and drivers.
