Raising awareness of the risks workers face and how to prevent them is central to EU-OSHA’s mission. Over the past 25 years, the Agency and its partners have reached out to target audiences through the Healthy Workplaces Campaigns, the European Week for Safety and Health at Work and many other awareness-raising activities.
On 5 June, EU-OSHA hosted a gathering to mark 25 years of working together with its partners for a safer, healthier and more productive Europe.
There was a truly special atmosphere as EU-OSHA’s network came together for speeches and discussions, looking back at EU-OSHA’s history and forward to its future.

The 2018 Annual report outlines how EU-OSHA pursued its goal of achieving safer and healthier workplaces in Europe.
Significant milestones include the launch of the 2018‑19 Healthy Workplaces Manage Dangerous Substances campaign, and the publications of the project on safety and health in micro and small enterprises and the foresight project on new and emerging risk posed by digitalisation. The findings from these projects will inform policy-making and inspire a future Healthy Workplaces Campaign.

Every year on 9 May, Europe celebrates the idea of the harmony of European citizens in peace and unity, first presented by Robert Schuman in his now historic speech in Paris back in 1950. His vision has over the years evolved into a society of common values called the European Union.
Accounting for the vast majority of businesses in Europe, micro and small enterprises (MSEs) employ around half the workforce. Yet, their workers are particularly vulnerable when it comes to workplace accidents and work-related ill health.
By raising awareness and providing practical resources, EU-OSHA, with the help of its partners, has supported hundreds of thousands of MSEs and many other beneficiaries, and continues to look for innovative ways of reaching out to its key target audiences.

Based in the award-winning city of Bilbao, EU-OSHA is informally known as ‘the Bilbao Agency’, reflecting its deep and mutually beneficial links with the city.
EU-OSHA welcomes its new founding regulation, coming into force on 20 February 2019.
In its 25th anniversary year, the new regulation recognises EU-OSHA’s key role in making Europe a safer and healthier place to work since its foundation in 1994. This new regulation takes account of the rapidly changing world of work and is a clear endorsement of EU-OSHA’s continuing relevance in the future. It is aligned with the regulations of other EU agencies under DG Employment and introduces few substantial changes.
