What impact does a lack of good OSH have on the economy?

“The economic case for good occupation al safety and health (OSH) is stronger than ever”, EU-OSHA’s Director Dr Christa Sedlatschek says in an article published in the Parliament Magazine. “Every effort invested in OSH, by public or private organisations, generates a significant economic return”, Dr Sedlatschek continues.

In the article, she refers to the first results of a new project on estimating the costs and benefits associated with OSH, which EU-OSHA is working on in collaboration with the International Labour Organization and the governments of Finland and Singapore, among other partners. This project will continue with the development of a sophisticated economic costing model, to be published in 2019.

Dr Sedlatschek gives details about the estimates, presented recently at the XXI World Congress on Safety and Health at Work in Singapore and available using a data visualisation tool on EU-OSHA website.
