The European Association of Sport Employers (EASE) and UNI Europa have recommended the use of OiRA tools to improve health and safety standards and to address common barriers to employability in the sports and active leisure sectors on a joint opinion adopted.

The ‘Strengthening employability in the sport and active leisure sector’ joint opinion aims to shape the future of these diverse and growing sectors where employees face temporary and part-time working contracts and employers underline skills gaps and mismatches. The opinion identifies barriers and offers recommendations to overcome them. It also agrees on a definition of employability based on a holistic approach.

The document outlines specific recommendations for sub-sectors, including professional sports. These cover ways of addressing the multiple barriers faced by professional athletes during their sporting careers and beyond, as well as encouraging European and national policy makers to follow the recommendations to support new and existing policy initiatives. The joint opinion is available in English, French and Spanish.
