Back to OSH newsEuropean Parliament and Council reach agreement on the first comprehensive legal framework on Artificial Intelligence worldwide
European Parliament and Council have reached a political agreement on the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act), a set of comprehensive rules for trustworthy AI. The regulation aims to ensure that AI in Europe is safe and respects fundamental rights and democracy, while boosting innovation and making Europe a leader in the field.
The deal, which was proposed by the European Commission in April 2021, establishes obligations for AI based on its potential risks and level of impact. The settlement focuses regulation on identifiable risks, provides legal certainty and opens the way for innovation in trustworthy AI. The agreed text will now have to be formally adopted by both Parliament and Council to become EU law.
Worker management through AI is one of the priority areas of our Healthy Workplaces Campaign: 'Safe and healthy work in the digital age' . The campaign highlights opportunities (better allocation of tasks and scheduling, optimisation of work organisation, providing information that is helpful for identifying OSH issues…) and risks and challenges (increased workload and pace of work, social isolation, invasion of privacy…) related to this topic.
The impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the world of work was also the focus of the last edition of the European Employment & Social Rights Forum.
