Improving occupational safety and health in micro and small enterprises in Europe – Construction and Agriculture sectors
The European Agency for Safety and Health is organising a conference ‘Improving
occupational safety and health in micro and small enterprises in Europe – Construction and Agriculture
sectors’ on 16 October 2019 in Brussels.
The necessity to improve occupational safety and health (OSH) in micro and small enterprises has
been prioritised in national strategies on OSH, in the European Commission’s strategic framework, in
its communication on the modernisation of OSH legislation and, most recently, in the context of the
European Pillar of Social Rights.
In 2014-2018, EU-OSHA carried out a wide-ranging project with an overall aim to identify key success
factors in terms of policies, strategies and practical solutions to improve OSH in micro and small
enterprises in Europe. The results are presented in several published reports (for more details, see:
The conference will focus on the construction and agriculture sectors that are both dominated by micro
and small enterprises and observe the highest levels of OSH risks. It will engage EU and national
stakeholders in a dialogue on how European micro and small enterprises in the construction and
agriculture sectors can be supported to manage OSH effectively. For additional details, please find
enclosed the draft agenda and background information.
