World No Tobacco Day: say no to smoking and protect your lung health

Every year, 31 May draws attention to the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use and second-hand smoke exposure. The World No Tobacco Day aims to discourage the use of tobacco in any form and to call individuals, the public and governments to take action to promote a smoke-free lifestyle.

The initiative by the World Health Organization (WHO) each year highlights a theme that disseminates a unified global message and the 2019 campaign raises awareness about  the exposure to tobacco and how it endangers lung health, from cancer to chronic respiratory disease.

Despite the general knowledge of harmful implications on people’s health, many workers are still unable to work in a smoke-free workplace. EU-OSHA offers a collection of info-sheets to help ensure a smoke-free working environment for everyone.
