The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work is pleased to announce that its Management Board has appointed William Cockburn Salazar as its new Executive Director. With an extensive track record in occupational safety and health (OSH), William brings a wealth of expertise and years of dedication to his new role. He steps up to lead the agency as the global work landscape is transforming significantly, with new technologies, remote work arrangements, and changing employment structures.

Speaking about his appointment, William comments: "I am truly honoured to lead EU-OSHA in fostering a positive risk prevention culture across European workplaces. Every day, there are around ten fatal work-related accidents and a further 600 deaths from work-related diseases. This sobering toll is a stark reminder that much remains to be done and that everyone deserves to work in an environment that prioritises their safety, health and wellbeing. I am excited to contribute to achieving this goal with the Bilbao-based staff."

Alongside EU-OSHA’s team of committed professionals and the focal points and their tripartite network at the national level — under the strategic steering of the Management Board — his term as EU-OSHA Executive Director will see the Agency strengthen its work with the Member States, social partners, EU institutions and other relevant stakeholders to pursue its mission of advancing OSH in Europe and beyond.
