The future of agriculture and forestry: trends and implications for workplace safety and health

© EU-OSHA / Emmanuel Biard

A new report provides a snapshot of the findings of EU-OSHA’s foresight project on the organisational and technological changes facing the agriculture and forestry sector, and the resulting challenges for occupational safety and health (OSH).

Traditionally, the sector has one of the highest accident rates in Europe, with many workers poorly protected by OSH regulations or not protected at all, increasing risks from climate change, low farm incomes, slow uptake of smart and safer technologies, and lack of a prevention culture all contributing to this.

The report concludes with recommendations for future research and policy-making.
